March 21, 2026. Nine days of the brain building itself. The day before, not a single commit in the brain — but 23 in Clickerz. The brain did not need to step in. The infrastructure was in place, the agents knew what to do, the work got done. The best proof that a system works is when it does not need to be touched.
Today, the brain turns back on itself. Not to build — to give.
BHP Phase 2 — the brain slims down
The first commit lands at 15:27. Late in the day. Not an all-nighter — a targeted afternoon.
f96e455 — feat: BHP Phase 2 — boot-summary/detail 17 agents + coach gate + session zones
The finding came from a previous session’s handoff: the brain was loading full agent files — 200 lines — when only 25 lines matter at startup. 17 agents dissected, each split into boot-summary (what is needed to start) and detail (what is needed to go deep). Debug. Security. Code-review. VPS. Testing. All the workhorses.
Result: 87% reduction per agent loaded at boot. The brain no longer loads what it has — it loads what it needs. The session starts faster, the context is more precise, and the heavy agents are loaded only when they are used.
The coach gets its gate: in a navigate session, it stays at boot-summary. In a work or brain session, it loads the full detail. The behavior adapts to the mode.
Template RC
That same minute:
3859d7c — feat: template RC — docs live API, brain-ui components, release prep
RC — Release Candidate. The template — everything the brain needs to exist on another machine — comes together. Brain-engine (standalone API server), brain-ui (dashboard), docs (16 pages), 74 agents (boot-summary/detail), setup.sh (one command to install everything). Zero references to the owner. Zero connections to the original brain.
But a realization emerges: the brain has documentation scattered across wiki pages that no human would ever read. Technical matrices, spec tables, reference sheets — useful to agents, invisible to people.
The question comes: “Qu’est-ce que quelqu’un qui fork ce brain a besoin de voir ?” (“What does someone who forks this brain need to see?”)
The docs are served by brain-engine, not built into a static bundle. A new markdown file in docs/ appears in the sidebar automatically. No rebuild. No deployment. The brain documents itself in real time.
“j’ai créé une page Testing et ça fonctionne ! C’est génial !” (“I created a Testing page and it works! It’s awesome!”)
The documentation IS the product. Change the config, refresh the page, see the truth.
The onboarding trio
At 19:43:
1dc3d4e — feat: trio agents template (guide/catalogist/pathfinder) + navigate L1 + intentions
Three agents forged for someone who does not exist yet. guide — explains how the brain works. catalogist — indexes the agents. pathfinder — points newcomers to what concerns them. Welcome agents. As if the brain were expecting visitors.
At 19:57, the numbers are corrected and the link to story.tetardtek.com is added. The brain no longer just documents itself — it shows itself.
brain-ui satellite
At 20:20:
d7c346c — fix: supprimer symlinks brain-ui/public/docs/ — docs servies live par brain-engine (“fix: remove brain-ui/public/docs/ symlinks — docs served live by brain-engine”)
The symlinks — leftovers of a static mode that no longer has a reason to exist. Removed.
At 20:26:
aaf7921 — kernel: brain-ui migre en satellite autonome (Gitea brain-ui) (“kernel: brain-ui migrates to a standalone satellite (Gitea brain-ui)”)
brain-ui leaves the main repo. Its own Gitea repo, gitignored in the brain, cloned independently. Same pattern as toolkit/, progression/, reviews/. The prod brain clones the satellite. The template keeps it inline — one fork, one repo, zero friction.
Two strategies, a single source code. The drift disappears.
On the brain-ui side, five commits in the evening: the dashboard learns to work without an Apache proxy (auto-detect API path), locally as well as in production. The fork will not need to tinker.
The first visions of what comes next
At 22:13, two intentions are captured — the seeds of what will come. At 22:55, profil/ is added to the .gitignore as a standalone satellite.
Then at 23:31, a commit that anchors the legal identity:
e95c731 — license: proprietary — backup prive GitHub, kernel distribue via Cortex-Template (BSL 1.1) (“license: proprietary — private GitHub backup, kernel distributed via Cortex-Template (BSL 1.1)”)
The personal brain is proprietary — private, on Gitea. The distributed kernel goes through Cortex-Template, under the BSL 1.1 license — open-source with a two-year non-compete clause, then Apache 2.0. The boundary is set: the kernel is a gift. The personal brain is a fortress.
At 23:39:
cd9e9d0 — scribe: focus + now + intentions — session marathon complete
The marathon session closes. From optimization to template to distribution to license. The pattern — the same since day 1 — repeats: build the thing, then build the means to give it away.
“chacun aura son brain, avec sa propre personnalité forgée autour de la personne qui l’accompagne” (“everyone will have their own brain, with its own personality forged around the person it accompanies”)
Day 6 had said it. Day 10 delivered it.
What was built
- BHP Phase 2 — boot-summary/detail on 17 agents, 87% boot reduction (
f96e455, 15:27) - Template RC — live API docs, brain-ui components, release prep (
3859d7c, 15:27) - Template agent trio — guide/catalogist/pathfinder (
1dc3d4e, 19:43) - brain-ui satellite — standalone Gitea repo (
aaf7921, 20:26) - Symlinks removed — docs served live, not static (
d7c346c, 20:20) - brain-ui API auto-detect — works locally AND behind a proxy (
803abf3, 21:14) - BSL 1.1 license — private brain, open-source template (
e95c731, 23:31) - Cortex P0 intentions — inner-POV story captured (
f0ffe24, 22:13)
Key decisions
- BHP Phase 2: boot-summary/detail. The brain loads what it needs, not what it has. 87% reduction. Precision beats exhaustiveness.
- Documentation as a product. Served by the API, not built statically. An added file appears automatically. Zero rebuild.
- Template = kernel without a soul. The fork receives the structure. Identity is built through use. Open kernel, private distillation.
- BSL 1.1. Neither fully open-source nor proprietary. The middle ground: open today, free in two years, competition forbidden in the meantime.
- brain-ui satellite. Same code, two distribution strategies. The brain clones, the template inlines. Zero drift.
